Arts exhibitions have become a well-known event in footsteps international school Abuja, and the 2023/2024 second term edition was held on the 25th of March 2024. The exhibition generally comprised of both Arts and Science segments, but my report will be anchored on the arts exhibition only.
The arts segment was divided into the 3 sub categories of Arts namely:
- Visual Arts
- Performing Arts
- Literary Arts
The visual arts comprised of painting, drawing and craft, they were responsible for showcasing the “African Heritage”. This the drawing group did through wonderful drawings of wonderful African calabashes, native lanterns, masquerades and many other such artifacts using protégé.
The painting group painted calabashes, paper mâché and as well as the lush green lands of Africa.
For the group involved in craft, they made raffia mats, tie and dye just to name a few.
Furthermore, for the performing arts, they performed a variety of dances such as Igbo traditional dance as performed by Koida Nancy, Angel Ugwu, Caren, Rejoice with Ike Daniel portrayed as the Igwe (King).
The Hausa dance was performed by Ahmad Musa, Ibrahim Yusuf, Kasim Aminu, Abdulmujeeb Hameedah, Hayatudeen Habeeba, Ruqayyatu Umar and yours truly moi, Ysmin Usman.
The spectacular Efik (Cross River State) snake-like dance was performed by Bernice Nkwocha and Chidera Ike.
The literary arts segment featured students such as Koida Joseph, Adulmujeeb Jumoke, who presented heart-warming odes (poem of praise) on Mama Africa.
Our rehearsals ended by Thursday of the 11th week, while Friday the 22nd of March, 2024 was scheduled for a dress rehearsal between the hours of 12noon to 1:30pm. I would like to really appreciate our teachers who put in their ultimate best to ensure our exhibition was a great success.
Having experienced this exhibition, my opinion on its importance to learners are:
- It gives students an opportunity to share their works of arts with others and receive feedback.
- It also helps them to connect with the community around them such as teachers and other students
- It helps students find their calling in different fields of arts and to represent students creativity.
Our exhibition was indeed an intriguing event. Check out our exhibition gallery here.
