A REPORT ON THE SCIENCE EXHIBITION AT FOOTSTEPS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, ABUJA.

The 2nd term of 2023/2024 academic session commenced on the 9th of January 2024. Activities were outlined for the term, amongst which were Science and arts exhibition, a planned excursion to a communication house (for the Primary) a planned excursion to a Space Centre (for the secondary School), and our termly community project under the Mission Better Community initiative.
In preparation for the science exhibition, students were on the 24th of January divided into different groups with Mr. Itodo the Physics instructor as the overall head, the groups were Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D.
The different groups were given supervisors and mandated to work on a science project to be exhibited on the 25th of March 2024. The rehearsals kicked off exactly on the 24th of January 2024.
Group A was headed by Mr. John and Mr. Solomon, and their project was the determination of soil porosity as well as inventing a water purifier. The materials used for the determination of soil porosity were as follows:
- Beaker
- Samples of different soil types
- Water
- Cotton wool
- Funnel and
- Stop watch
The materials for water purifier were:
- Bottle
- Pebbles
- Charcoal
- Sand and
- Cotton wool
Group B was headed by Miss Chiamaka, and their project was the construction of electric fan and dispersion of white light . the materials user for the construction of electric fan were:
- Battery
- Switch
- C motor
- Wires
- Fan blade
- Wooden box and
- Tripod stand.
Group C was headed by Mr. Isaac and Mr. Raymond and their project was electrolysis. The materials used were:
- Beaker
- Distilled water
- Sodium chloride
- Wires
- Electrode
- Battery and
Mr. Marcus was the coordinator for group D, and his aim was to educate the group members on principle of elevator, principle of water dispenser, adaptive features of terrestrial animals using a live tortoise, adaptive features of aquatic and arboreal animals (using a life catfish) and lastly, research on the Nobel prize winners of science.
The dress rehearsals was held on the 22nd of March 2024, while the main event took place on the 25th of March 2024.
It was indeed a spectacle that indeed prepared learners for their future and not the past.
